Kidneys
Each kidney is about the size of a cell phone. Your kidneys remove urea from the blood through filtering units called nephrons. Urea with water and other waste substances forms urine as it passes through the nephrons and down the renal tubes of the kidney. Kidneys balance the volume of fluid in the body because they will make less urine if the volume of fluid in your body goes down perhaps through sweating. They also can change your blood pressure because they produce a hormone that narrows the arteries in your body causing blood pressure to rise when higher pressure is needed. Your kidneys also produce a hormone that tells the body when to make more blood cells. All of the blood in our bodies passes through the kidneys several times a day.
