The skeletal system
Functions
One function of the Skeletal system is to support your body. It supports the softer tissue in your body and it is the framework of your body.
Another function is to protect the body. It reduces the risk of injury to the vital organs such as your heart lungs and spine. The skeletal system also helps your body move. Your bones are attached to muscles so when muscles contract some bones do also. Your bones also store minerals. Your bones are a storage place for minerals critical to your health like calcium and phosphorus. The final function of the skeletal system is blood cell production. 2.6 million blood cells are produced every second by your bone marrow.

Periostem: coding and outer covering for the bone that contains blood vessels and nerves to nourish the bone.
Diaphysis: the bones "body", the long shaft
Spongy bone: strong and lightweight inner layer
Compact bone: Smooth and strong outer layer of bone
medullary cavity: center of the diaphysis filled with red blood marrow for blood production

Long bone: Bones that are hard and dense that provide structure and mobility. They are longer than they are wide.
Short bone: Bones that are as wide as they are long. Their primary function is to provide support and stability with little movement.
Irregular bone: Bones that do not have a uniform shape. They can serve at protection, support, or anchors to muscles.
Flat bone: Bones that are strong flat plates. Their main function is to provide protection to the bodies vital organs and they act as a base for muscular attachment.
